What to expect when you improve your diet

If I were asked which is the area of great misunderstanding and confusion in the area of nutrition, I would immediately reply, it is the failure of properly understand and interpret the symptoms and changes, which follow the beginning of a better nutritional program.

What is meant by a better nutritional program? Simply put, it is the introduction of higher quality in place of lower quality foods. For example if a person replaces a protein rich food such as pork with beef, the beef may be considered to be the superior of the tow, due to its easier digestibility, lower and less saturated fat content, etc. Chicken is superior to beef and fish is superior to chicken because of it's more rapid digestibility and is lower in saturated fat. To summarize, the closer the food comes to the natural state in which it occurs, or the closer we come to its raw, unrefined form, the higher its quality. In this condition all the enzymes are found intact, amino acids are in their finest form, the minerals, vitamins, trace elements, carbohydrates and "life force" are present. This life force, in turn, is capable of reproducing very strong healthy tissue. The same classification of quality, which we analyze in relation to protein rich foods, applies to the carbohydrates, the fats and the mineral rich foods, as well. The quality of a nutritional program is also improved by eliminating certain foods that can be toxic, such as coffee, tea, chocolate, tobacco, salt, and other foods that the body has trouble digesting or foods that are simply synthetic, such as bread, pasta, creamy dressings, soda and alcohol.

What is the relationship of quality of foods to recovery from illness? It is this in a nutshell: the higher the quality of food that we eat, the quicker we recover from disease. Now, what happens when a person follows these rules and makes a decided improvement in quality of food consumed? Remarkable things begin to happen to the body as well as the mind. The amazing intelligence present in ever cell of the body and the wisdom of the body in its operation immediately becomes manifest. The rule may be stated this way; when the quality of the food coming into the body is made of higher quality than the tissues which the body is made of, THE BODY BEGINS TO DISCARD THE LOW GRADE MATERIALS AND TISSUES TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE SUPERIOR MATERIALS, which it uses to make a new and healthier tissue. This is the plan of nature, of evolution. The body is very selective and always aims for improvement and for better health. The body always tries to produce health and always will unless we interfere too much. Only then will we fail to recover from disease and degenerate further into poor health. The self-healing nature of many conditions such as colds, fevers, cuts, swelling injuries, etc. furnishes endless examples of how the body always has a natural bias towards health, and always will, unless we do something to stop this process.

What are the symptoms or signs, which become evident when we begin to omit the lower grade foods and instead introduce the superior foods contained in the 3-2 Eating Plan? When the use of toxic stimulants such as coffee, tea, chocolate, or cocoa is suddenly stopped, headaches are common and a letdown occurs. This is due to the discard by the body of the toxins called caffeine and Theo bromine, which are removed from the tissues and transported through the blood stream during its many bodily rounds. Before these agents reach their final destination for elimination, these irritants register in our brain as pain, in other words, a headache. This letdown is due to the slower action of the heart, the resting stage that follow the stimulation of a more rapid heart action forced on the body by these stimulants. The more rapid heartbeat produces a feeling of exhilaration, and the slower action produces a depressed state of mind. Usually, within 3 days, the symptoms vanish and we feel stronger due to the recuperation and the building of new healthier tissue, which follows. To a lesser degree the same process occurs when we abandon low quality foods and replace them with the high quality foods on the 3-2 Eating Plan. Lower quality foods have undergone more preparation, or processing. Preservatives, salt and other ingredients have been added and they tend to be more stimulating than unprocessed food prepared in a more natural fashion.

It is important to understand that it is more important as to WHAT you eat than how MUCH you eat. It is also more important as to WHAT you eat as opposed to WHEN you eat. Many people think that they gain weight because they eat late at night. This is not true, again, simply it is what you eat more than when you eat. Processed foods such as bread, pasta and white rice are a tremendous source of empty calories, which your body simply converts into fat and stores. Bread is a particularly dangerous item to eat and should be avoided at all costs. Bread shows up in many forms. Biscuits, bagels, crackers are all forms of processed white flour that is stimulating to the heart rate and totally devoid in utilizable calories.

NO SALT, NO SUGAR, AND NO WHITE FLOUR IS THE RULE.

Natural herbs can be used to flavor the food (fresh or dry), and I also recommend marinades for the meats as long as it is made of 3-2 foods.

The 3-2 Eating Plan History

The 3-2 Eating Plan originated out of my need for more energy, rather than being developed as a means for effective weight loss. It seems the weight loss is actually a byproduct of engaging in an incredibly simple and fundamentally sound eating plan. In the early 70's, I was working a sales manager for a large medical firm in the Midwest. I was teaching Taekwon-Do three evenings a week and on Saturday. I made the decision to open my own Taekwon-Do studio and suddenly instead of teaching Taekwon-Do four times a week, I'm teaching Taekwon-Do four times a day! Almost immediately, with that schedule, I became exhausted. My options included teaching fewer classes or not working hard during all of my classes. Neither one of these solutions was viable for me, so I needed another answer or I had to go back to what I was doing prior to opening my studio. I knew there had to be a better way and I turned to nutrition for the answer. I talked to many people and read everything I could get my hands on, but what really opened my eyes was some lessons I took with the Chicago Ballet Company in 1975-1976. They worked out hard every day and even though they had some very unhealthy habits like smoking and not getting enough rest, they also knew some things about nutrition that would turn my life around. I learned that you couldn't eat bread and work out hard all day, every day; you can't eat bread products like croutons, crackers, cake, etc. I learned you cannot drink milk or soda and you need to drink a lot of water, up to 120 ounces per day. Well, as soon as I started making these changes, I started getting more energy and I kept refining it, reading additional information, and adding in the green vegetables, and, of course, fruit. I think it was around 1977 when I came up with the idea of the Mack Shake, the 16 ounces of orange juice, the banana, apple and pear. I choose these ingredients not only because of the nutritional value, but also because they are available year-round. My problems were solved and not only did I feel better, but now I had the energy to go to tournaments on the weekends and start riding my bike long distances. I seemed to have unlimited energy and this was due entirely to my new eating plan. As the years went by, I developed Black Belts who also competed in tournaments. When I introduced them to this new way of eating it had exactly the same effect on them. Some of them would introduce the eating plan to their spouses and family members who were overweight and surprise, surprise, it worked and the 3-2 Eating Plan for weight loss was born. It seems that if you engage in light to moderate exercise and follow the 3-2, the weight just seems to fall off your body. When you go on this plan and follow it and you exercise on a regular basis, three times a week, you will find you will not only lose those unwanted pounds in a very safe, natural manner, but you will have all the energy you could possibly want.
