Letting Go

Benjamin Hoff wrote a wonderful book, “The Tao of Pooh,” in which he explains the eastern philosophy of “Tao in relationship to “Winnie The Pooh”, the “bear of little brain”. Hoff writes: “We love Pooh because he doesn’t try too hard. Pooh lives in the present moment. Pooh just is.”

When it comes to business and even to our personal lives our happiness and accomplishments are more assured once we’ve learned to live and let go. It can be as simple as that, live and let go especially of end results. To let go is not to deny, but to accept. Acceptance is the key. Acceptance leads to relaxation and inner peace. Acceptance allows us to work hard towards our goals and dreams and not be imprisoned by them.

I have always been impressed by people who are the least concerned about making an impression. They spend their time being impressed by you and being themselves, all the while having let go of any desperation for affection, so they automatically have the affection they seek. Another example is people who make a lot of money they only start making it once they’ve stopped working for it. In another words, they involve themselves in work they love and the money just flows automatically. They have money because they’ve let go of it. The person is working because they love the challenge of what they’re doing more than the money. That’s probably why they’re rich!

To my way of thinking, we need to be able to live without something in order to attract it to ourselves. Once we let go, we magnetize ourselves to what we want and not only is it drawn to us, but even greater rewards. Even in business, it’s known that in order to close any big deal, we first have to “release” or let go of the big deal.

Now, once we’ve set the goals and done the work, it’s time to allow the results to happen in their own natural time. If you plant a crop, don’t go out every day to see if it’s growing yet, that won’t help it’ll just ruin the growth process. Just let nature take its course. Just relax and let go. To let go is not to care for, but to care about. To let go doesn’t mean to stop caring, it means I can’t do it for someone else. To let go is not to regret the past, but to grow and live for the future. To let go is to fear less and love more. As Claude Debussy said, “Music is the space between the notes.”
